Alleged N19billion fraud: Group asks EFCC to conclude prosecution of Fani-Kayode
A pressure group, Media Development Initiative, MDI, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Initiative, EFCC, to expedite action on the prosecution of Mr Femi Fani-Kayode who allegedly mismanaged over N19billion meant for improvement of facilities in the nation’s airports. In a statement signed by Martins Onyilokwu, the MDI Director of Communications in Abuja on Thursday regretted that a former Minister of Aviation who failed to improve facilities in all major airports despite the resources available to him would criticise expansion of the nation’s airports. “The MDI was shocked to watch Mr Fani-Kayode lambasting the current Minister Aviation Minister for expanding the airports and beautifying same. He claimed that the minister would have only concentrated on safety measures. “We are surprised by Fani-Kayode’s advise. This is a man who failed to use N19billion availed him by the Obasanjo administration to improve facilities at the airports. He started rehabilitation of major airports, but work was abandoned in all of them. To now begin to play politics with the aviation sector leaves much to be desired. Mr Fani-Kayode understand that Nigerians are aware of the damage he did as an Aviation Minister and are waiting patiently for the law to take its course”, Onyilokwu said. The group pointed out that the failure of EFCC prosecution teams to diligently prosecute former ministers like Fani-Kayode has turned them into menace in the society.
