As preparations for this year’s Felabration festival hots up, Kymani Marley, son of reggae music legend, Bob Marley, has been confirmed as one of the top acts that will be performing at the annual festival. Kymani will be headlining the festival alongside fuji music exponent, King Wasiu Marshal (K1), 2Face Idibia and rap star M.I among others. Felabration, instituted to celebrate the life, times and music of the genius Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, will commence on 14 October with a symposium titled: Movement of the People: The Fela/Bob Marley Perspective. On 15 October, the music segment of the festival which started on Tuesday, 8 October with the Secondary Schools Debate was held at the Freedom Park, Lagos. This year’s debate was won by Oriwu Senior Secondary School, to retain the trophy won last year. The festival’s street carnival will hold on Saturday 19 October, across the streets of Ikeja, Lagos. This will include street dances, choreographed dancing and brilliant display by colourfully attired gymnasts performing atop flatbed trucks. The music segment of the festival will be held at the New Afrika Shrine, Ikeja, Lagos. Speaking recently at the Kalakuta Museum, Afrobeat king, Femi Kuti, who is the Organising Committee’s Head of Security, said the organisers have taken adequate security measures to forestall any lapses. “We have gone the extra mile to make sure fans are totally safe and secure. As a back-up to the Shrine Security Corps, a local security outfit has also been contracted to man the artistes zone, including the stage,” he said. The high point of this year’s festival will be the 20 October performance of Femi Kuti and Kymani Marley on same stage
