Neymar eclipses Ronaldo
All the drama of the El Classico played out as expected but it was Brazil international Neymar that stole the show as he scored his first El Clasico goal as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-1 at the camp Nou on Saturday 26 October 2013 with Alexis Sanchez also on target before a late consolation by Jesse Rodrigues.
Neymar netted his first El Clasico goal to send the Catalans in front inside the 18th minute after a fine interchanging play between Busquets and Iniesta to find Neymar who slotted the ball home from inside the area for the opener.
Khedeira went close to drawing level terms with two minutes to the interval after latching on to a a cross into the area by Ronaldo but the Germany international was denied by Valdes who reacted swiftly to stop the ball from crossing the line and ensure Barca took with them a 1-0 lead to the dugout at half time.
The Brazilian went close to extending his tally on the night with a left footed shot off a long ball into the area but Diego Lopez did well to keep the ball out.
Three minutes later, Ronaldo had a golded opportunity to level the score off a through ball from Luka Modric but Valdes stood his ground to deny the Portuguese’s left footed strike.
Karim Benzema who came on for summer signing from Tottenham Gareth Bale went close with a long range effort that rattled sticks after beating Valdes.
Moments later, substitute Alexis Sanchez doubled the lead for the home side after rounding Pepe just outside the area to loop the ball past Diego Lopez who was off his line to make it 2-0 but the Los Blancos pulled one back right on the 90 minute to end the game at 2-1.
The victory means Barcelona retain top spot with 28 points from ten league matches while the visitors sit third behind Atletico Madrid with 22 points from the same number of game
