JTF kills 2 terrorists, arrests 2 others in Kano
TWO members of Boko Haram sect lost their lives in a gun duel with Joint Task Force (JTF), while two others were intercepted and apprehended in Kano, on their way to Zamfara State.
According to a statement signed by the spokesman of the JTF, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on Tuesday, two AK-47 rifles, four magazines and 68 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the suspects in a Nissan Sunny car.
Captain Iweha said the Kano command of the JTF had mounted a checkpoint on Kankara–Sheme road in Katsina State, to intercept fleeing terrorists from the north-eastern axis of the country.
“In continuation of operations aimed at complementing the efforts of operation of in the North East and as is customary with the JTF in Kano, the command wishes to keep the general public up to speed with developments.
“Yesterday (Monday), November 18, 2013, at about 1930 hours (7.30 p.m), following intelligence build up, the JTF and personnel of the Department of State Service were intercepted on Kankara-Sheme road.
“Following interrogation of the terrorists, a further cordon and search operation was also conducted this morning (Tuesday), November 19 at about 0630 hours (6.30 a.m) at Gayawa General area of Ungogo Local Government Area.
“As a result of this, two terrorists lost their lives in the resulting shootout with troops. Items recovered from them include two AK-47 rifles, five magazines, 91 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, among other items,” the letter read.
The force commended the people of the state for their cooperation, adding that the achievements were as a result of the support the JTF was receiving from members of the general public.
“Members of the public are enjoined to go about their lawful businesses without any fear and to contact the JTF through its telephone numbers in the case of any distress,” the statement read
