Calabar Carnival to be Broadcast Live to 40 African Countries
Viewers in at least 40 African nations will have the opportunity to watch live Calabar Carnival, one of Nigeria’s cultural showpiece events. The landmark cultural jamboree will be beamed to them this month by Multichoice Nigeria.
According to a report by P.M.NEWS, MultiChoice will be screening the carnival, considered the biggest multi-dimensional tourism and entertainment programme in West Africa, to DStv subscribers across the continent via the dedicated channel 199 from December 26 to 31.
Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, said that DStv was the place to be this festive season for non-stop entertainment.
He explained that DStv’s coverage of the event would follow its long line of partnership with host communities to promote local initiatives with the underlining theme of exporting the best from Africa to the rest of the continent and beyond.
“We choose this festive season to remind Nigerians of their roots and to serenade them with some indigenous and special centrepiece events that are packaged to leave lasting memories in their hearts. Of course, our support for initiatives of this nature underline our commitment to the promotion of the best that Nigeria and indeed Africa, has to offer,” he said.
He also added that a magazine-style package of the best moments from previous editions of the Calabar Carnival spiced with live coverage would be available for some subscribers.
The annual Calabar Festival, tagged “Africa’s Biggest Street Party”, is a month-long celebration when the city plays host to the world, welcoming visitors to sample its culture and seasonal festivities.
It began with a tree lighting ceremony on November 30 and will culminate with an interdenominational service on January 1, 2014
