Sunderland defeat United

Sunderland defeat United to book Capital One Cup final place against City
Vito Mannone was the hero for Sunderland, as they defeated Manchester United on penalties, to qualify for the final of the Capital One Cup. Gus Poyet’s men travelled to Old Trafford for the second leg of their semi-final clash, with a 2-1 win over David Moyes’ men. Johnny Evans put the Red Devils in front in the 37th minute, levelling up the tie on aggregate. Both sides struggled to score in the second half and the game headed into extra time. In the 119th minute of the match, Phillip Bardsley thought he had put his side through into the finals, but his joy was cut short few seconds later, as Chicharito pounced to level the tie on aggregate again. The game had to be decided on penalties. Danny Welbeck, Adnan Januzaj, Phil Jones and Rafael all missed their spot-kicks, as United were dumped out of yet another competition this season. Sunderland will face City in the final at Wembley on March 2
