THE ARTICLE BELOW IS AS A RESULT OF THIS SAD NEWS The concept of discipline through physical punishment has been around way back in history. When children misbehave, parents might give them a good spanking in order to punish them, but now the society is starting to question whether hitting one’s kid is the best form of action to take. Corporal punishment is a “form of physical punishment that involves the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offence, or for the purpose of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer.” Some studies have shown a correlation between corporal punishment and the eventual mental disorders people acquire as adults. A renowned psychiatrist, John Bradshaw, in his most recent published book, “Reclaiming Virtue,” explored the potential harms and long term damages corporal punishment has on children. “I believe it is the enemy of moral intelligence and also the cause of great deal of cruelty and violence in the world,” said Bradshaw. Even though common punishments such as slapping, spanking, choking, shaking and ear pulling have a long standing history, going over the edge is the precise danger of corporal punishment. Often, parents or even senior students in schools who are punishing the kids cross the line between discipline and abuse. What might have started off as a friendly reminder for the child to not misbehave sometimes turn into a uncontrolled abuse that could lead to potential psychological damage. Various studies and psychological analysis demonstrate that one reason parents/senior students tend to spank kids is to take revenge on their own child for the hurt they suffered. The abusive parents/seniors generally had a hard childhood, often victims of abusive parents. Over years, these repressed hurt have transferred its outlet to be taken out on other children. And the abused children grow up to have the same desire to beat his or her own kids, even other people's kids and this leads to a never ending cycle that many want to stop. FOR EXAMPLE ME OME Many times, the abused children do not see themselves as victims because kids think very highly of their parents and sometimes these senior students and view them as godlike. So, to justify the beating and abuse from them, young children view themselves as bad, and parents as good. Furthermore, studies have shown corporal punishment increases the chance of a child’s improper psychological development and could most definitely lead to future mental disorder and illnesses
