Bamanga Tukur Finally Resigns As PDP National Chairman

Embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has finally resigned. The resignation took effect Wednesday January 15, 2014.
He was reportedly forced to step down following a brief meeting with Mr. President who impressed on him that he must resign or face the consequences The President had reminded the chairman of a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] stating that the national executive council of the PDP was illegally constituted. Mr. President told the embattled Chairman that the letter can be recalled into play. The embattled chairman was reported to remain adamant until it was revealed to him that the national executive council and the national working committee were readying to cast a vote of no-confidence on Thursday January 16, 2014 against him. To avert the vote of no confidence, Bamanga Tukur hurried a resignation letter – and dated his resignation for January 15, 2014 – after the Muslim holiday. President Goodluck Jonathan will inform the meeting of the National Caucus of the party tonight in Abuja about the development. However, the governors are resisting the move. BEFORE NOW: According to Vanguard new paper this evening Alhaji Tukur walked into the Banquet hall of the Presidential villa at about 7:50 said he was not a sort of person that would resign in secret. The PDP chairman who walked in with former chairman of the party, Vincent Ogbulafor told state House Correspondents that the rumour of his resignation was not true. “I have not resigned. I am not somebody that would resign and you would not know. I have not resigned” he said curtly before walking into the hall where the meetin of the BOT was to hold
